While the next instalment of the long-running Halifax Pop Explosion is practically half a year away, organizers have begun to roll out lineup details. The first wave of acts attached to the 23rd annual event include Edmonton electro-dabbling duo Purity Ring, Toronto indie pop unit Alvvays and Maritimes busybody Rich Aucoin.

As with years past, the upcoming event takes place in the fall, with numerous shows being spread across venues Halifax-wide between October 20 to 24. Details have yet to be delivered on exactly when and where the artist will play, but it's added that Aucoin will be accompanied onstage by Symphony Nova Scotia.

"I am so excited to announce that Purity Ring, Alvvays and Rich Aucoin will be part of this year's festival. All three bands have strong ties to Halifax and we are thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of these internationally touring artists," Halifax Pop Explosion executive director James Boyle said in a statement. "This year's event will have the same exciting live concerts you have come to expect from HPX with a few surprises you won't want to miss."

The rest of the Halifax Pop Explosion lineup will be revealed at a later date, but organizers have announced that early bird passes are about to go on sale. From May 15 to 30, a limited batch of all-access passes will be on sale for $69, plus taxes and service fees. Once they're gone, the price goes up to $99.
