Guided By Voices Collect Rarities for Next 'Suitcase' Box Set

Guided By Voices announced a year ago today (September 18) that they had once again broken up, but the prolific alt-pop project are hardly forgotten. For one, Robert Pollard is still delivering solo LPs and releases with Ricked Wicky, and now a massive rarities set from GBV is on the way as well. Titled Suitcase 4: Captain Kangaroo Won the War, the collection lands November 20 through GBV Inc.

A press release notes that the collection drops as an extensive four-CD box set and as a single vinyl LP of "highlights." The box features 100 tracks of Pollard-penned demos, alternate takes, B-sides and more, with its reach stretching across 20 years of the songwriter's career.

While a tracklisting has yet to be release in full, Suitcase 4 covers material later reworked for 1992's Propellor, 1993's Vampire on Titus, 1994 breakthrough Bee Thousand, 1995's Alien Lanes, 2001's Isolation Drills, 2003's Earthquake Glue and post-reunion effort Class Clown Spots a UFO from 2012.

Some songs explored within the hefty set include "Goldheart Mountaintop," "Motor Away," "Hardcore UFOs," "Echos Myron," "Tractor Rape Chain (Clean It Up)" and "Queen of Cans and Jars."

Additionally, Suitcase 4 includes a handful of demos recorded earlier this year, which tease Pollard's next solo album, Of Course You Are. The official album versions are expected to arrive next year.

The upcoming release marks the fourth instalment in Guided By Voices' Suitcase series, which began in 2000. The last of the series to have arrived was 2009's Suitcase 3: Up We Go Now.
