Greys

'Outer Heaven' (album stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 14, 2016

There's just over a week to go before Toronto post-punk outfit Greys officially float their Outer Heaven to the faithful. Good news, though: if you wanted to hear the album right now, a full-length stream has made it online.

As previously reported, Outer Heaven is the sophomore collection from the group, and it was recorded at Montreal's Hotel2Tango studio with producer Mike Rocha. The album expands on the group's noise rock tendencies, and is described as "a distinct mixture of melody and dissonance, order and chaos, volume and substance."

Already, we'd heard the record's spiralling "No Star" and "Blown Out." Elsewhere, opener "Cruelty" is a slow-boil rock piece somewhat akin to peak period Hum, "If It's All the Same to You" blasts by with messy, shoegaze abandon, and "Sorcerer" conjures up a blissed-out mix of shrieks and atonal guitar noise.

You can enter Outer Heaven via the player below, while the album hits stores April 22 through Buzz Records/Carpark Records.
