Living punk rock legends Green Day have announced their 14th studio album, led by new single "The American Dream Is Killing Me."
Saviors is out January 19 via Reprise / Warner and is now available for pre-order. It follows 2020's Father of All... — and based on that, the album artwork seems to, at the very least, be an improvement.
The band recorded the album with Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo — who worked with them on Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, American Idiot and Bullet in a Bible — between London and Los Angeles. Press materials describe Saviors as "an invitation into Green Day's brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture and legacy of the last 30 plus years."
Lead single "The American Dream Is Killing Me" was one of the final songs made for the LP. "As soon we cut it, we said, 'OK, that's going first,'" frontperson Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement. "[It's] a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn't work for a lot of people — in fact, it's hurting a lot of people."
The band are set to headline the Grey Cup Halftime Show in Hamilton on November 19. Although nothing has been officially announced, Green Day recently shared onstage that they're planning on embarking on a huge North American tour next year with Smashing Pumpkins, the Linda Lindas and Rancid. In the description of the music video, they've hinted at November 2 bringing some kind of announcement with it, so stay tuned for that.
