It's been four years since Winnipeg/Toronto hip-hop outfit Grand Analog released their last album, 2009's Metropolis Is Burning, but that will change with the arrival of Modern Thunder on August 20.
The album features some notable guests from the Canadian music world, including Shad, Saukrates, Maylee Todd, Saidah Baba Talibah, Peter Katz, TALWST and Amanda Balsys of the Wilderness of Manitoba, among othres.
You can hear a couple of those guests by listening to a few cuts from Modern Thunder below. The laid-back and atmospherically soulful "Rap Sheet (This Day On)" features Saukrates, while the jazzy and sax-fuelled "Trip the Light Fantastic" includes Maylee Todd. You can also hear a so-called "Dub Mental Mix" of the Shad-assisted "The Great Rhyme Dropper."
Grand Analog have announced plans for album release parties in Toronto and Winnipeg. The Toronto gig will take place on August 20 at the Drake Hotel (tickets are available here), while the Winnipeg gig is two days later (August 22) at Union Sound Hall.
