God's America

Our Bones Will Bleach in the Sun

"God's America" is meant to be said with tongue planted firmly in cheek, at least in the case of this powerviolence group from Los Angeles, CA. Formerly named the Seeds of Rape, complete with a track titled "Shit Cherishers (Humans As Flies)," you get the impression the band don't have much faith in humanity, let alone anything greater. Their music doesn't encourage prayer either. Our Bones Will Bleach in the Sun offers a grinding, grating romp through the powerviolence territory currently occupied by Hatred Surge, Iron Lung and labelmates such as Eddie Brock and Weekend Nachos. Their raw aesthetic is paired with equally raw production, making the scathing riffs even more threatening. However, the vocals are distracting, at times, sounding more like a bellowed bark than a growl. This is more easily overlooked in the shorter and/or faster songs, where you don't have time to notice. Much like real-life America, God's America are best enjoyed with a bit of ignorance.
