God Dethroned

Into the Lungs of Hell

BY Greg PrattPublished May 1, 2003

They seemed doomed to underdog status forever, but on Into the Lungs of Hell, God Dethroned dish out a completely tasteful and quite raging take on modern death/thrash metal. It's got so much going for it: a tolerable 37-minute playing time, a beefy production, a bassist who happens to be named Beef, great lyrics that touch upon animal rights (hail!) and media issues, and enough memorable thrash riffing and soloing to make King/Hanneman proud. Maybe they're too thrashy for the death-heads and too heavy for the Haunted nuts or something, but in a way it works for God Dethroned, as they are the kings of their particular castle, wherever it may be.
