Atlanta's girlpuppy has announced her debut album When I'm Alone, arriving October 28 on Royal Mountain Records. Alongside the album announcement, she's also shared a video for lead single "Wish," directed by Matt Swinsky and Eat Humans.

Recorded with John Michael Young, Sam Acchione and Henry Stoehr, When I'm Alone was inspired by a smorgasbord of sounds, from My Bloody Valentine and the Roches to Caroline Polachek and the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack.

"I'm used to writing about other people, and including details about other people's lives," said girlpuppy's Becca Harvey in a press release. "With When I'm Alone, the theme really is my internal battles with things I've done, rather than reflecting and blaming everyone else."

Of the twinkly, hot-blooded "Wish," Harvey said:

I was thinking about when friends leave your life and you're not entirely sure why. It's a pretty universal feeling, I think. And, the thing is—even if you managed to live in the walls of that person's apartment and were able to figure it out, their reasons might not make total sense. This song is me living with that feeling, when loss just doesn't quite add up. This is the first shoegaze rock song I've made and I did that intentionally—the emotions in the song go from anger to sadness to nostalgia and all the other emotions that you feel when you go through a "friend breakup." I imagined it being really cathartic to play it live.

When I'm Alone is the follow-up to 2021's Swan EP, recorded with Phoebe Bridgers collaborator Marshall Vore.
