In case you've been ensconced in a refrigeration unit for the past few months, we've been in the midst of a tropical summer, and there's only one thing that complements the most scorching of seasons better than SPF 50 and frigid tipples: carnival season bashment. Don't get it twisted, though, this is an entirely different beast than regular bashment, winter bashment or even Christmas bashment. This is what producers and artists have been limbering up for, and now is their time to shine. Interestingly, the Caribbean countries predominantly hold their carnivals early in the year (i.e., the legendary J'ouvert) according to religious tradition, so the summer season is when the diaspora get its chance to shine, with all the myriad influences of its respective regions. Enter Ghosttown and Parly B. The UK-based production and artist duo have dug deep with the influences to bring you Every Manor. Ghosttown's background as a hip-hop producer is evident in the driving percussion complementing the '80s digi and dub influences, along with some more esoteric nods, such as the Middle-Eastern funk of "Tightest Summin" or the G-funk synths of the title track. Expect to hear this in sets of all discerning DJs this summer season. Dust off your finest wine and get low.
