Genesis Owusu has announced his sophomore album Struggler, set to be released on August 18 via Ourness / AWAL.
He's also released the lead single and opening track, "Leaving the Light," accompanied by a dramatic music video. In a unique blend of hip-hop and punk, the song gives a glimpse into the album's anxious exploration of life.
Struggler draws inspiration from Samuel Beckett's tragicomedy play Waiting for Godot and Franz Kafka's novella Metamorphosis, showcasing themes of endurance, determination, and the absurdities of life.
Owusu said in a statement that "the struggler runs through an absurd world with no 'where' or 'why' at hand, just an instinctual inner rhythm, yelling at them to survive the pestilence and lighting bolts coming from above. A roach just keeps roaching."
Earlier this week, the artist mapped out a series of headlining tour dates in North America, Europe and Australia, with two Canadian stops this fall (Toronto on October 17 and Montreal on October 18) in addition to his previously announced supporting trek with Paramore that will bring him to Toronto's Scotiabank Arena next month.
