Fuzz Band

Collision

BY Ryan B. PatrickPublished Jul 1, 2006

The mandate of Virginia-based indie outfit the Fuzz Band is "bringing live music back to the forefront of urban culture.” Who am I to argue? Indeed, the Fuzz Band’s influences run the gamut from hip-hop, reggae, R&B, soul, funk, rock, alternative, jazz and classical, creating a layered soul tapestry. Lead singer Nakia Madry’s vocals evoke classic soul against an eight-member backdrop of solid musicianship. No doubt, the music sounds good and standouts include "Party with Me,” "Too Shy” and "Free.” Collision is aptly named but their diverse experimentation may be a negative — by defying categorisation they may also be defying wider success.
