2013 was an exciting year for Vancouver indie folk outfit the Fugitives: they saw the release of both their Bigger Than Luck EP and subsequent full-length, Everything Will Happen; they toured across Canada; and the band had a rather unusual CD printing mix-up that saw many promotional copies of their album replaced with a weight loss instructional disc. Luckily, the band wouldn't let something as odd as that get in the way of touring. Passing through Toronto on their recent tour, the band brought their comforting sound and impressive vocal arrangements to the Exclaim! offices for an intimate live session, which was captured on video for this week's Exclaim! TV.
With a brick wall, plants and a fire escape as their backdrop, the Fugitives played their heartbreaking album opener, "Love Affairs," off of last year's Everything Will Happen LP. Performing with a variety of string instruments, the five-piece band floated their five-part harmonies over the arrangement, tying the whole performance together beautifully.
