Downtown is Dead

Fucking Invincible is a bold claim to make, especially for a band only two EPs into their career. With Downtown is Dead, the Rhode Island hardcore unit attempt to justify their moniker. Fortunately, they succeed — at the end of this eight-songs-in-nine-minutes EP, you're left wanting more. While fans of the members' other outfits (Daughters, Dropdead and Soul Control) will enjoy the onslaught at hand, Fucking Invincible's appeal doesn't stop there. Always powerful and, at times, violent, the music contained within transcends the boundaries imposed by powerviolence. Instead, the band utilize the groovier aspects of hardcore to spice up the assault. Unfortunately, the overuse of sampled dialogue is a slight distraction in what could have been a more smoothly flowing record; it's also a shame Downtown is Dead isn't longer. However, if invincibility can only come as a result of such short bursts of life, we'll take it and anxiously await Fucking Invincible's destruction of another part of town.
