A few weeks after announcing their debut album, Soft Plastics — born from the ashes of Frog Eyes — have shared three new songs and an accompanying video.
All three of the new tracks are from the band's forthcoming album 5 Dreams, due June 5 via Paper Bag Records. "Here's Where the Sun Was," "The Party's Still On" and "Wyld Thyng" set Carey Mercer's distinctive, jittery vocals to a melange of tinny drum machines, synths and horns, continuing the heartfelt, art-rock cacophony that Frog Eyes were known for.
"Here's Where the Sun Was" has also been treated to a music video, featuring Mercer singing to many aquatic creatures chilling in a tank. Though the video was filmed before the world began practising physical distancing measures to slow the coronavirus pandemic, Mercer notes, "the animals in the tank live in isolation. And I empathize with them more now than I ever did before."
