Frog Eyes

'Pickpocket's Locket' (album stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 24, 2015

Frog Eyes are due to drop their Pickpocket's Locket at the end of the work week via Paper Bag Records, though the faithful can snag all of its sounds right now. No, this isn't a nefarious, music-pinching manoeuvre, but rather a fully sanctioned album stream to tide us over until the art rock platter hits shelves on Friday (August 28).

The collection begins with a one-two punch of previously teased tracks "Two Girls (One for Heaven and the Other One for Rome)" and "Joe with the Jam." "Death's Ship" has now set sail, a rollicking chamber pop piece featuring a plenitude of tenderly swiped strings and rumbled rhythms, as well as the ragged glory guitar anthem, "Rejoinders in a Storm." All of this, of course, is steered by main man Carey Mercer's powerful, vocal chord-cracking poetry.

As previously reported, Pickpocket's Locket was written by Mercer, using his late father's Martin D-18 acoustic guitar. You can hear everything he and the rest of the band cooked up down below, via Stereogum.
