Fragile State

The Facts and the Dreams

BY Andy LeePublished Feb 1, 2003

Without fail, the final step in making a down-tempo album these days seems to be the addition of breathy female vocals to the mix. Thankfully, Fragile State resists the temptation on The Facts and the Dreams, an album that showcases the multi-instrumental and production skills of Ben Mynott and Zero 7's Neil Cowley. From the opening break of "Song of Departure" to the slippery piano licks of "Every Day A Story," Fragile State weave strands of deep soul, jazz and sweeping orchestral flourishes into a majestic tapestry of sound. The blissful universe invites the listener to sit back and let the minutes and worries melt away. Recommended for whatever ails you.
