Night Moves (the latest effort from Bay Area-based outfit Foreign Legion) is pretty much everything you'd expect from a West coast alt-rap outfit. There's an even mix of introspection, party rhymes and rapping-about-rapping over beats that are heavy on funk and jazz samples. There's nothing really wrong with Night Moves ― the beats are fun and up-tempo, particularly on songs like "Fast and Loose" and "Party Over Here." MCs Marc Stretch and Prozack Turner are sharp, lyrically dexterous rappers. The thing is, it feels so done. Night Moves sounds like it could have been released by Dilated Peoples or Jurassic Five a decade ago. There's nothing wrong with Night Moves, there's just not anything particularly special about it.
