Flying Lotus Teases New Studio Album, Shares 'Ideas+Drafts+Loops' Comp Featuring Earl Sweatshirt, Shabazz Palaces, Baths

Flying Lotus's most recent album, Until the Quiet Comes, was one of Exclaim!'s favourite albums of 2012, so we're excited to learn that the beloved electronic producer has a new LP on the way.

The details surrounding the planned album are still shaping up, but FlyLo has dropped lots of hints over the last couple of days on Twitter. He wrote, "I'm looking at a tracklist. Almost ready for mixing."

FlyLo noted that he is currently unsigned, but his relationship with Warp is still good, and they are in the process of negotiating.

FlyLo added that his rapping alter-ego Captain Murphy will appear on this album, revealing, "It's a flylo album this time but the captain is all over it." He further said that his next project will be a Captain Murphy album, V, and revealed that he was also scoring a film.

The album has a title, but no release date. When asked if would be jazzy, he said, "Yes. I imagine it will b kind of jarring at first." Fans can expect to hear new material during upcoming live shows.

Today (December 10), FlyLo also revealed that he has recorded a new song with Shabazz Palaces and THEESatisfaction. There's no word as to whether this is for FlyLo's new LP or if it's a separate project entirely. He also promised to reveal his collaboration with Herbie Hancock soon.

Most recently, he's been hinting that he might release some new material soon, possibly this afternoon. As of press time, his latest string of tweets reads, "U kno what ... Fuck it… About to be 300k today probably. Zip file coming right up… Hey u guys are gonna share this folder right? Pls pass it around. Pass to the homies. Rt the hell out of it… Lots of stuff n this folder. Some u knw. Some u don't… Let me show u somefinnnn…"

UPDATE: Sure enough, Flying Lotus has shared a zip file of a new collection called Ideas+Drafts+Loops. Get it here. You'll see that it boasts guest contribution from Earl Sweatshirt, Baths, Shabazz Palaces, the Underachievers and the late DJ Mehdi. There's also a Thundercat-equipped rework of Kanye West's "Black Skinhead."
