Loveable psych rock weirdos the Flaming Lips turned Christmas Eve (December 24) into their own personal Record Store Day by releasing a couple of archival recordings at select indie shops. Now, the previously unreleased 2nd Cassette Demo from 1983 has emerged online.
These four tunes are very different from the brightly twisted psychedelic sound the Flaming Lips are best known for. Like much of their early material, the tracks are instead punchy and aggressively tuneful punk songs.
Listen to the entire 7-inch below. The A-side, consisting of "The Flaming Lips Theme Song 1983" and "The Future Is Gone," is in the first player; the B-side features "Real Fast Words" and "Underground Pharmacist," and these are in the second player.
Thanks to The Future Heart for the tip.
