It follows the Winnipeg musician's 2021 debut 'Make Peace with That'

Field Guide (a.k.a. Dylan MacDonald) has announced the release of his self-titled sophomore LP, and given us our first taste of the record with new single "Leave You Lonely" and its accompanying music video.

Slated for October 28 via Birthday Cake, the album will follow 2021's full-length Make Peace with That and the singer-songwriter's 2020 EP You Were. The newest effort will live in a place between light and darkness, with unshakeable melodies at heart.

"When I find a melody that represents my internal world, I drop my guard. I allow the words to appear out of thin air without judgement," MacDonald said in a statement about the album. "A lot of these songs came to life that way. I wasn't trying to make anything, but the songs became a home for words that I wasn't yet ready to write on the page."

Of "Leave Your Lonely," a track about devotion and fighting complacency, MacDonald continued:

Having doubts is human, but swallowing those feelings can often lead us into a haze of disconnection. It's rare to hold only one feeling at a time and I've been learning to embrace the myriad of emotions that come with being alive, and in love. This song represents a beautiful and imperfect love, the recording is the same — no editing, a one-take (and sometimes out of tune) vocal.

The accompanying video, made en route from Sierra Vista, AZ, to San Diego, CA, features a hazy MacDonald wading through the desert — far from its recording during one of Manitoba's coldest winters in decades.

"The intense heat made us move slow," the artist added, reflecting on filming the clip. "That lethargy paired with the choice of a slow frame rate made me feel as though I could move my body to the music without feeling as inhibited as I normally might. Filming this video felt a lot like listening back to a demo of a new song, or even mixes of the final recording — I'll often wander around the house or outside on a walk feeling pleased to have accurately captured my interior world in song."
