Ex-Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted Announces 'Metal' EP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 14, 2012

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted launched his own heavy metal project this fall, and now the four-stringer has officially announced his first EP. The band is now simply called Newsted, and the EP is logically titled Metal. It will be out January 8.

The bassist unveiled the EP with a hand-written letter to fans, posted online over here. While he has previously spoken about releasing his music on vinyl, Metal will be exclusive to iTunes. Pre-orders begin next week, on December 18. Purchase all four songs and you will receive a copy of Newsted's handwritten lyrics.

Check out the tracklist below. Blabbermouth notes that Newsted will film a music video on December 18.

The onetime Metallica member previously discussed the possibility of releasing a string of four-song EPs, and Metal suggests that this plan may be going ahead. He said, "I have so much music from over the years. I have a bunch of new stuff, I have so many mixes of projects with people — new players, young players, old-school players like myself — so I'm just trying to figure out exactly what I wanna unleash on everybody first."

Metal:

1. Soldierhead
2. Godsnake
3. King of the Underdogs
4. Skyscraper
