Everclear Pull a U2 and Release New Album for Free on Windows 10

U2 pissed off a lot of people last month with the infectious roll-out of their album Songs of Innocence in collaboration with Apple. Now '90s rock dinosaurs Everclear have effectively taken the piss out the whole thing by announcing that their new album will be coming out for free on Windows 10.

Before you get too outraged, we should point out that Everclear made this announcement via a Funny or Die sketch, meaning that the whole thing is a joke. The parodic commercial looks a whole lot like U2's recent Apple promo, only with a Windows-themed twist: there's the mascot Clippit, games of Minesweeper, the classic "Bliss" wallpaper, solitaire, BonziBuddy and more.

Naturally, the video eventually crashes with the blue screen of death. Everclear frontman Art Alexakis then pops up to tell us that the album will be free with Windows 10. Following another crash, we see that the album will supposed be packaged on CD-ROM. Watch it below.

There's one part of this that isn't a joke: Everclear actually do have a new album coming out. Alexakis has been talking about it in interviews, although the details have yet to be announced.
