Embalmed

Exalt the Imperial Beast

BY Greg PrattPublished Nov 21, 2011

Extreme cult black metal from Mexico is what Embalmed offer, and on Exalt the Imperial Beast, the band's first full-length since forming in 1989 (hey, why rush things?), they deliver. And if "extreme cult black metal from Mexico" makes you think of ludicrous, treble-heavy, noisy production, raw and messy playing, and just enough old Hellhammer homage to bring in more extreme thrash/death fans who usually bang heads outside the strict confines of black, hey, you're right, that's exactly what this is. And if that phrase just makes your eyes turn into Xs, you needn't venture any further into the psychotic blackened terror that Embalmed conjure up so excellently on this full-length. It isn't going to draw in any new converts to the blackened cause, save those death metal fans looking for the next level of extremity, something most assuredly offered on this little glimpse into the abyss.
