Elton John has revealed that he is scheduled for an operation after injuring his hip in a fall, and will have to postpone his remaining 2021 "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour dates as a result.
The 74-year-old announced the postponement earlier today via his social channels, writing, "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am forced to reschedule."
He explained: "At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since."
John added: "I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications. I will be undertaking a program of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to full mobility without pain."
The postponement will affect the artist's run of tour dates scheduled in Europe, including multi-night performances in Berlin, Dublin, Paris, London and elsewhere.
John is currently scheduled to perform two pairs of shows in Toronto and Montreal in February 2022, as well as another show at Toronto's Rogers Centre on September 7, 2022, and a concert at Vancouver's BC Place on October 21, 2022. So far, these dates remain unaffected. The artist plans to resume his tour as scheduled in New Orleans in January 2022.
Meanwhile, John is due to release his new album The Lockdown Sessions on October 22 via Interscope Records.
