Different Sun

Different Sun is a fun collection of psychedelic guitar music. Their rhythm section takes its time to create a strong groove base reminiscent of Neu! and Can, giving the lead guitar plenty of room to explore via clever, winding solos. Between this and the washed out, chant-like vocals, Different Sun is reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age's recent Like Clockwork. The album's lyrics gesture towards concepts like eternal return on tracks like "All Of This Has Happened Before And Will Happen Again," a message reflected by the ominous, implacable tones of the rhythm section.

"Mercury Rise" hints at the effects of climate change, asking the listener, "Will you be the one to blame when the mercury rise?" If the groove underpinning this message is anything to go by, Electric Eye seem willing to dance away the apocalypse. Throughout Different Sun, they maintain the balance between steady, solid grooves and exciting forward motion, as on "Heavy Steps on Desert Floor," an ambitious composition that steadily builds to a noisy and ecstatic conclusion. Different Sun is a throwback to the rip-roaring fun of the psychedelic '60s and '70s but still manages to feel present and unique.
