Dutch Henry

1973

BY Matt CharltonPublished Mar 1, 2003

Many of the more memorable country artists of the past made their sound by combining two varying elements. Gram Parsons took equally from the Louvin Brothers and the Rolling Stones, while the simultaneous influence of Amphetamines and Barbiturates presents itself strongly throughout Johnny Cash's work. Dutch Henry's attempt at this is infinitely less cool in source and result. Combing Garth Brooks (post-Chris Gaines fiasco) with the straw hat, pop whore sound of Juice Newton, Dutch Henry's 1973 sounds about as new as "You've got the clap" sounds to Nick Carter.
