Dubkasm

Transform I

Dubkasm is a detail-oriented, Bristol-Brazilian dub hybrid. The Brazil part of the equation is generally less in evidence, though it was largely recorded there. This edition of the project is essentially a roots-reggae sound with a fair sprinkling of digital touches. Acoustic sounds dominate though, especially the unusually clear nyabinghi drums. They've also got a nice horn ensemble sound throughout, not unlike Zion Train's "horny" dub. "More Jah Sounds" is a typically solid track with a steady mid-tempo groove and the still mellifluous vocals of British sound system favourite Tena Stalin. Some very devout tunes, such as "Moses," fold Brazilian cavaquinho and cuica into churchy horns to create a successful fusion. When the vocalists take a break, the energy changes as the vibes get a little bit more dub-wise on tracks like "Babylon Ambush."
