I had been holding out for an interview with Drive-By Truckers and / or the Hold Steady since hearing they'd be coming to town with the Rock and Roll Means Well tour a few months back. Both are bands I'm a big fan of, but wouldn't really get to talk to under other, non-Exclaim!TV circumstances, since they're both kind of outside of my area of genre expertise. It must have been 3am the night before when DBT's publicist finally got back to me, but I was way, way stoked to get to sit down with Patterson Hood, who is obviously an awesome dude, to talk about his band and his politics. And Patterson has got to be one of the nicest guys I've ever interviewed. After we finished the interview, he and I talked for at least five minutes about how good the Hold Steady's rhythm section is. Then his band ruled, and I had a great day. Thanks, fate!
