While the televised ceremony of the Juno Awards won't air until tomorrow (April 3), a handful of trophies were handed out at a special gala tonight in Calgary.
Some big stars managed to nab awards, including the Weeknd's Abel Tesfaye (Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, R&B/Soul Recording of the Year) and Drake (Rap Recording of the Year).
Former Calgarians Braids took home the Alternative Album of the Year Award, while the Electronic Album of the Year went to Pomo. The Dance Recording of the Year was handed over to Keys N Krates.
Death From Above 1979 managed to steal Rock Album of the Year from Nickelback, among others. In the metal category, Kataklysm won Heavy Metal Album of the Year.
Further, Buffy Sainte-Marie added another award to her mantle to pair nicely with her Polaris Music Prize, winning Contemporary Roots Album of the Year and Aboriginal Album of the Year.
The Arcade Fire were presented with the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award, which was presented to the band's Regine Chassagne by Bob Ezrin. In an earlier speech while accepting his Producer of the Year Award, Ezrin also referenced his feud with Kanye West.
That wasn't the only award to go to a member of the Arcade Fire, as Sarah Neufeld (alongside collaborator Colin Stetson) also managed to grab the award for Instrumental Album of the Year.
Check out all of this year's Juno winners so far (marked in bold) below, and stay tuned for more news tomorrow when the awards are handed out in an official televised ceremony.
UPDATE (04/03, 9 p.m.): A handful of other awards were handed out during the televised Juno Awards broadcast, including even more recognition for the Weeknd. Peep the full list of winners below.
