Down Announce Canadian Summer Dates

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jun 23, 2009

New Orleans-based doom/sludge metal outfit Down are one of few bands that can truly call themselves a heavy metal supergroup. Featuring the likes of Philip Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, Jimmy Bower, Kirk Windstein and Rex Brown, the band cite the likes of Corrosion of Conformity, Eyehategod, Pantera and more as their, uh, "dues" bands.

You lucky folks over in Western Canada should be excited to know that all of that talent is about to hit your area soon. The band have announced four shows in August, with tickets going on sale Friday (June 26) at 10:00 a.m.

After this tour, the band is purportedly going back into the studio to record a fourth album, the follow-up to 2007's Down III: Over the Under. We've already placed bets that it will be called Down IV. It it tentatively slated for a 2010 release.

If it passed under your radar, in October 2008, Down released a "deluxe edition" of Over the Under as a Best Buy exclusive. It includes a DVD with over 30 minutes of previously unreleased live performances and behind-the-scenes footage.

Those Canadian dates:

8/6 Winnipeg, MB - Burton Cummings Theatre
8/7 Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Event Centre
8/8 Calgary, AB - MacEwan Hall
8/10 Vancouver, BC - Commodore Ballroom
