As Donald Trump's chaotic term as president came to an unceremonious close this week, the now-former president and his family have left the Joint Base Andrews air base in Maryland in the most dramatic fashion they could muster — with their departing flight soundtracked by Frank Sinatra's "My Way."
The Trump family's down-to-the-minute farewell was staged so that the song would play the moment that Air Force One lifted off the ground, in a show of stubbornness accentuated by a song about a man who conducts himself on his own terms. According to the New York Times, the Trump clan touched down in Florida around 11 a.m. ET this morning.
Reporting on the event, CNN and BBC reporters giggled their way through the proceedings, noting the absurdity of the family's surreal goodbye. Twitter, predictably, also cracked some jokes in response, with some pointing out that Sinatra's daughter Nancy has long maintained that her father "actually did loathe [Trump]."
Of course, the internet seized the opportunity to clown the shit out of Trump one last time — for old times' sake.
