Doja Cat revealed in a recent interview with V Magazine that her upcoming album, the follow-up to 2021's Planet Her, is going to be very different from anything she's done before.
The queen of deception posted a head-scratching Twitter thread back in April in which she proclaimed that she was done making pop music, and joked that her upcoming album will be techno-inspired, then said it was spoken word, then switched to saying she's quitting music. At this point, who knows what to expect?
What we do know is she doesn't care too much about pleasing people as she searches for a sound that is authentically her own.
"I have thrown fits my whole career because I have been making music that didn't allow me to have a mental release," she said in the interview [via Billboard]. "I have been making music that is palatable, marketable and sellable, that has allowed me to be where I am now."
"These upcoming projects are going to be very different compared to everything I have done and I am excited about that," she said. "I do not care if people are not," adding that the upcoming album is inspired by "hatred and outrage" culture and is a combination of "rap, soul and R&B music with jazz elements."
She has yet to announce a release date for her upcoming album but has shared that it will be titled First of All.
