Just like this same time last year, San Francisco folkies the Dodos have announced plans to migrate on a massive tour. This time, however, the dates will come as the band gear up to release their sophomore dose of pysch folk exercises, Time to Die, which has now been given the release date of September 18 through Frenchkiss.
As for the tour, the band, now a trio with the addition of a vibraphone player, will hit up a number of hot spots in North America and all over Europe. And included in there will be early July dates in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
On the album front, this follow-up to last year's Visiter is being produced by famed boardsmen Phil Ek (Built to Spill, Fleet Foxes) and features a "very big instrument."
"We have a whole new element in all the new songs right now - an electric vibraphone," guitarist Meric Long recently told Pitchfork. "That's what's really standing out. It was something I wanted to incorporate a while ago when I heard about this company that made pick ups for vibraphones so you can actually plug it in and really fuck up the sound while retaining that organic element. It's taken a little while to figure out - it's a very big instrument and, sonically, it takes up a lot of space."
