DJ Premier Prepping First Solo Album

While legendary hip-hop producer DJ Premier has been busy these last few months promoting his new PRhyme project with Royce da 5'9," the beatsmith has now revealed he's putting together his fist-ever solo album to be released later this year.

The album is going by the title Last Session @ 320, which is apparently a nod to Brooklyn's recently shutdown HeadQCourterz recording facility (previously known as D&D Studios). Premo had originally started working at the spot in 1992 as an artist-in-residence, but later became an owner.

"The building was sold in order to change it from commercial business to residential and our leases would not be renewed, so basically that means 'everybody out!'" Premier had said in a press statement [via Ambrosia for Heads. "It is tough to accept after so many years making that much history there, but life is good and I will continue to make hot music. Passion never leaves your soul and I have a lot of it so I'm ready to continue on."

The rap figure is currently working out of Kaufman Studios in New York, which has also apparently been redubbed "HeadQCourterz." An ETA for the in-the-works LP has not yet been established, nor has the tracklist or info on who might pop by to spit a few lines on the LP.

PRhyme, meanwhile, have a deluxe edition of their recently released self-titled album coming out soon. The revamped set will feature a guest appearance from metal-faced rhymer DOOM. It's likewise unclear when the remodeled record lands.
