Division Kent

Gravity

Having worked with the likes of Talking Heads, Depeche Mode and Nick Cave, producers Peter Schmidt, Gareth Jones and Peter Scherer collectively bring a serious wealth of collaborative experience to Division Kent's Gravity. Taking Swiss duo Sky Antinori and Andrea B under their wing, they pitch Division Kent's rather bland euro-pop rhythms against a backdrop of rich sonic textures. All of it ridden by Andrea B's breathy vocals, most at home in the mood and melodrama of Gravity's slower tracks. Division Kent's sound is at its best in the contrast of her wispy timbers atop lush and foreboding bass lines. More often than not, her voice is drowned out by much of the stylistic reverb and is more mood enhancer than anything else. Whether emitting a slow croon over top Scherer's lush guitar in "The Big Hush "or registering only slightly louder than air in "In The Headlights," her lack of vocal resonance both makes and breaks Division Kent's sound. And like it, floats aimlessly in the depths of the surrounding musical force.
