Diddy, Jay-Z Top 'Forbes' List of Hip-Hop's Wealthiest Moguls

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 18, 2012

Forbes's annual Hip-Hop Cash Kings list acknowledges the rap stars who have brought in the most earning in the past 12 months. The Forbes Five is a little different, however, in that it focuses on the net worth of the wealthiest moguls rather than hottest earners. According to the magazine's newly revealed Forbes Five findings, Diddy and Jay-Z have the biggest bank accounts in the genre.

Diddy (aka Sean Combs, P. Diddy, Puff Daddy and probably some other names too) topped the list with $550 million. Some of his major sources of income are Cîroc vodka, Bad Boy Records, Sean John Clothing Inc., Enyce clothing and Blue Flame marketing. Forbes projects that he might be a billionaire once he launches his own cable network, Revolt.

Jay-Z came in second at $460 million. While Hova's profits are more music-oriented than Diddy's (the Watch the Throne collaboration with Kanye surely helped), he's got a fair amount of successful investments of his own. Jay has his 40/40 Club bars and has stakes in Translation Advertising, Carol's Daughter cosmetics, the New Jersey Nets, and more.

Rounding out the top five are Dr. Dre at $270 million, Cash Money Records co-founder Birdman at $125 million and 50 Cent at $110 million.

Birdman told Forbes, "One of my motivations in life is to be a billionaire. We're going to keep working hard until we get our brand to be as big as possible. That's the goal in life, that's what I live for."

The Hip-Hop Cash Kings list for 2012 will be unveiled this summer.
