Long before the White Stripes and the Black Keys, Dex Romweber was showing indie rockers what could be accomplished with just a guitar and drums through his '80s, Athens, GA-based outfit, Flat Duo Jets. Jack White never ignored the debt he owed Romweber, inviting him to cut a few tracks in recent years for his Third Man label. Now with his sister, Sara, on drums, Romweber has been building on this momentum and this latest full-length effort shows that his commitment to the musical path he's chosen hasn't diminished. Is That You In Blue? has everything a Romweber fan could want: garage rock rave-ups; stinging, Link Wray-esque instrumentals; and a few surf/lounge excursions thrown in for good measure. While die-hards might prefer his early lo-fi work over the new album's contemporary production values, Is That You In Blue? is a nice introduction for newcomers, especially fans of the Sadies, another band that have often tipped their caps to Romweber.
