There's this whole movement of metalcore bands over in Germany, France and the Benelux nations of Europe that goes by the tag H8000. H8000 is a sound that harkens back to the crossover of the late '80s/early '90s and mixes it with lots of chugga chugga riffing and about every distortion pedal on the market. It's nothing really original, but it's distinct and popular overseas. Deviate are from Belgium and their Hatebreed meets Madball with a Euro twist is pretty popular. They're heavy with lots of down picking, screaming and double bass, but it's not like you've never heard anything like this before. And this is Deviate's problem: they're perfectly competent at what they do, it's just that what they do is pretty dull.
