Details Revealed for Nas' Deluxe 'Illmatic' Box Set

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Dec 7, 2012

Get On Down have proved themselves to be masters at rap reissues, with killer deluxe represses from GZA and Raekwon figuring prominently in Exclaim!'s Holiday Gift Guide, and you can add another cool-looking package to the label's catalogue: a primped-up version of Nas' 1994 debut Illmatic. The label announced the deluxe redo earlier this fall, and now now shared the details of what the Illmatic box set will include.

According to the imprint, the Nas Illmatic Premium Collection features a remastered "24k audiophile gold disc" CD housed in a "cherrywood trophy box" with a gold plaque, as well as the original album on LP. Plus, a 48-page hardcover booklet will contain photographs, full album lyrics, extended artwork, and liner notes from The Source founder Jon Shecter. On top of all that, the package comes with a replica of the original 1994 press release for the platter, a promo poster with full album lyrics printed on the back, and two 8x10 press shots.

You can also order the package with just the CD version or just the LP.

While Nas had a strong year due to the release of his latest album, Life Is Good, the Illmatic repress will no doubt have fans ready to revisit Esco's early days.
