Desalmado

Hereditas

BY Farah BarakatPublished Aug 16, 2011

Featuring 15 minutes and six ferocious tracks of definitive grindcore/death metal, this EP serves as a precursor to Desalmado's much-anticipated full-length, produced by Jean Dolabella of Sepultura. The influence of that infamous metal band isn't lost on Desalmado, as blast beats and gutturals careen across grindcore's hyper-tempo variations and chugging riffs. Vocalist Caio Augusttus covers low death growls and ear-splitting shrieks, oftentimes switching with the tempos, creating the illusion of double vocals. "Chagas Abertas" is a potent flurry of blast beats and tremolo picking that's demonstrative of death metal at its purest here. "Mangue De Sangue" features an impressive alignment of changes in pace and range, displaying their grindcore influences. Title track "Hereditas" is the closer and hits where it hurts; with head-spinning speed, it features several tempo changes accentuated by guitarist Estevam Romera's undeniable skill. These six pummelling tracks provide a perfect combination of classic death metal and grindcore.
