Rootsy five-piece Delta Spirit are almost ready to release their latest record Into the Wide, but you can hear the album at Exclaim.ca before it hits shelves.
Originally from San Diego, the group relocated to Brooklyn to write the new album. Coming together in a post-Hurricane Sandy "flood-ruined, cave-like, rat-colonized room," Into the Wide is the band's moodiest material to date. Continuing the group's cross-country music-making trek, the new songs were recorded in Atlanta with Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter).
Speaking about the recording process, drummer Brandon Young explains, "One of the most important things was getting back to all of us being in a room together for every single song and recording everything live."
The result is a collection of heartfelt music that ranges from the screeching indie rock of "From Now On" to more the subtle, solemn numbers like the piano-driven "War Machine."
As previously reported, Delta Spirit will be taking the new LP on tour and you can see the upcoming dates (including a stop in Toronto) below. Into the Wide arrives on September 9 via Dine Alone, but you can scroll past the upcoming shows to hear it right now.
