Cathouse Blues

BY Craig DanielsPublished Apr 1, 2001

Cathouse Blues is a seven-song EP of (very) rough and ready modern rockabilly with a surf edge. Hailing from Vancouver, these old toughies have managed to score a prestigious release on a Japanese label, Revel Yell. The seven songs here are leftovers from past recording sessions over the years and, unfortunately, that's exactly what they sound like. Four of the tracks are covers and some are pretty hackneyed at that, with "Flying Saucers Rock and Roll" and "The Munster's Theme" having been covered sufficiently by like-minded bands already. The playing is a little rough in parts and the vocals aren't the greatest either, explaining why these songs hadn't been released before.
