Deadbeat's The Jacks EP first revisits his beloved 2008 track "Grounation (Berghain Drum Jack)" with a similarly titled "Berghain Drum Jack (2015 edit)." The results are not a mere retread, but offer a revitalization of the already strong track. The 2015 edit of this composition offers more clear, crisp detail to the original's layered, tumbling tribal house elements. This most recent incarnation elevates the track to its full potential, revealing an artist on a quest for self-critique and improvement.
Unfortunately, the other two tracks on this EP, "Mecca Dub Jack (2015 edit)" and "Acid Dub Jack" do nothing to complement or maintain the energy created by the opener. It's not that they are bad so much as they suffer from being juxtaposed with the excellent first track. "Berghain" is essential; the other two tracks here can't escape its formidable shadow.
