Dave Grohl's Hash Smuggling Guide and Beer Bong Blueprint Are Up for Charity Auction

"We used to make these diagrams for runners backstage at shows — 'Go to Home Depot and get this shit.'"

Dave Grohl may have only recently learned what a major 7th chord is, but there's no denying the Foo Fighters leader has accrued plenty of music know-how through his years of rocking — like how to build a beer bong and discreetly sneak one's hash into a concert.

Both of these indelible nuggets of knowledge from Grohl happen to be up for grabs in illustrated form, as signed, "one-of-a-kind drawings" commissioned for a charity auction as part of the annual Sea.Hear.Now festival — the event celebrating live music, art and surf culture, produced by renowned photographer Danny Clinch — in Asbury Park, NJ.

"Dave was immediately excited about the opportunity and started throwing out some creative ideas," Clinch shares of his artistic auction involvement. "As the festival grew closer, I would text Dave to remind him that we would need to collect the art soon.

"Being one of the busiest people that I know, he arrived at the festival with a Sharpie and ready to make art. As we were looking for some poster board for his art, a runner came back with some 'Prohibited Items' — corro board signage from the festival fences."

Below, you can find video of Grohl in action before Foo Fighters' headlining Sea.Hear.Now set, illustrating a hash smuggling technique that involves emptying the contents of a cassette tape, and drawing all the necessary hardware to construct a homemade beer funnel.

"We used to make these diagrams for runners backstage at shows — 'Go to Home Depot and get this shit.'" Grohl shares of the latter. "They would literally get it and screw it together before we played."

The auctions for each piece close later today (December 27), with initial bids for the beer bong blueprint and hash cassette beginning at $6,501 and $5,100, respectively. Proceeds from the auction will go to charities including Garden State Equality, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and more. You can find further auction details here.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Grohl slept through a recording session with boygenius. He and Foo Fighters released 11th album But Here We Are earlier this year.
