Carrying on from his previous effort, the collaboration with cellist Ben Sollee, Dear Companion, Daniel Martin Moore's second solo album digs deep into the traditional gospel sounds of his native Kentucky. On the whole, Moore's sensitive approach produces easy-swinging results, meaning fans of hardcore down-home picking will probably want to take a pass. Moore and his small acoustic combo are instead interested in the soul of each track, whether it's his own "O My Soul" or his unusually jazzy take on the traditional "Just A Closer Walk With Thee." It all makes for a pleasant listening experience, but there's not really much to set one's heart soaring, as great gospel music always does. This is strictly Sunday school music, but well done nonetheless.
