Dan Mangan is known for his sensitive, sometimes artsy folk rock tunes and his successful concerts platform Side Door, but now he's gone viral for an entirely different reason: orchestrating a birthday surprise for his wife.
Mangan is married to actor Kirsten Slenning, and yesterday (August 31), Mangan shared a video of Slenning reuniting with his sister, who she hadn't seen since before the pandemic. Mangan's sister-in-law lives in Oregon, so the songwriter flew her in as a surprise, and the video shows Slenning collapsing and weeping with joy.
He posted it on Reddit on r/MadeMeSmile with the title "Surprised my wife for her bday by flying in her sister who she hasn't seen in 20 months. Nailed it." It has received an incredible 77,200,000 upvotes in less than 24 hours (as of this writing).
Slenning wrote on Instagram, "[Mangan] asked me if he could post this video my Mom took and I wasn't sure at first (I'm a very private person) and it's the build up of so much longing: for my family, for connection, for less anxiety and fear. I'm so grateful I got this surprise that stopped my heart and let it reset, release and reunite with my fake twin."
