Damaged

Do Not Spit/Passive Backseat Demon Engines

BY Kevin Stewart-PankoPublished May 1, 2002

Obviously capitalising on the fact that this Australian band's last album featured the vocal malfeasance of ex-Brutal Truther Kevin Sharp, and the fact that Damaged has about as much impact outside of their home nation as the Chinese women's hockey team had at the Olympics, California's Rotten Records has reissued the band's first two releases. Damaged have been at this game for a long time and it shows in the quality and ferociousness of their super-uptempo, scythe-like grind. The pace rarely slows and when drummer demon Matt Sanders does ease up on the gas, the cruel barbarism of tunes like "Open Arms‚" "Dreggs‚" "Nails" and "Passive Backseat Demon Engines" is maintained by an unholy assault of razor-wire guitar and abusive vocalising. A neat little package that also includes a Bathory cover, a Celtic Frost cover, some industrial/noise freak-outs and their "Nails" video.
