Cut Copy Drop Surprise 'January Tape'

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Sep 30, 2016

Reportedly in the final stages of finishing the follow up to 2013's Free Your Mind, Cut Copy have dropped a surprise release in January Tape to tide patient fans over in the meantime.

Arriving as a cassette tape through Cutters Records, the release limited to 400 copies. A sample of the 44-minute long ambient, instrumental piece can be heard through the band's official website here.

"Having worked for much of the previous 12 months on a new Cut Copy album, we decided this January it was time to give ourselves a well earned break," frontman Dan Whitford shared in a statement. "But instead of retreating to the wilderness or decompressing on a beach somewhere, we spent ten days in the studio making a collection of ambient instrumental works. We wanted to share outtakes from these sessions in all their unedited glory with you, and put them out as an extremely limited edition cassette, available mainly through our webstores (though you may see a copy or two floating around in the wild)."

While a studio album has been in the works for the past three years, Cut Copy haven't been adverse to dropping the odd DJ mix here and thereJanuary Tape can be purchased through the band here.

Cut Copy have a series of North American DJ sets coming up as well, and you can see all those below.
