CTZNSHP

"Secret River" (video)

Earlier this year, fuzzed-out Montreal-based indie rockers CTZNSHP dropped their latest LP All Things to the Sea. Now, they've unveiled a new clip for "Secret River" from that very album.

The gloomy tune was written in response to the death of a singer-songwriter that had served as a musical inspiration to the band.

"'Secret River' was written after I found out that Jason Molina had passed away," explained singer Jesse LeGallais in a press release. "He was an enormous influence on me growing up and the circumstances surrounding his death were heart-breaking. The song felt like an ode to all the lifers out there who are following in the footsteps of people like Jason Molina. People who keep making honest, heartfelt and beautiful music regardless of whether the spotlight is shining on them or not."

Molina passed away from alcohol abuse-related organ failure in 2013, at the age of 39. The video is a suitably sombre affair, featuring performance of the band shot in extremely low lighting. The clip was directed by fellow Montrealer Michael Winder, who also designed the album artwork for the LP.
