While the Courtneys are heading Down Under for their first-ever Australian/New Zealand tour next week, the Vancouver pop rock trio recently met some fans from way up above. Despite this all taking place in the video for the band's "Mars Attacks," it seemed like a friendly enough encounter.
Serving as the A-side of a 7-inch released last year, the track is classic Courtneys, riding high on four-on-the-floor drums, Kiwi pop-flavoured guitar, and airy, ethereal vocals. Jen Twynn Payne sings about an alien abduction, while the rest of the band offers up reasonably calm "ahhhs" and dance in front of pyramid scenes, galactic backdrops and more. Rapper Young Braised and one of the greys show up for a mid-track rap verse all about Martians collecting roughly 5,000 doobies and a couple donuts to get the party started.
